moss monogram tutorial

I've seen several of these moss monograms al la Pottery Barn out in blogland since spring has sprung and this past weekend I thought it would be fun to hop on the bandwagon. I got my rolled moss and letter "A'' from JoAnn's for around $8 with my coupon. This project was really simple, a little messy and very quick- it took me maybe 15 minutes or so from start to finish. A perfect Saturday afternoon project to add a little spring to our house.

Supplies: glue gun, scissors, ribbon, wood letter, bag of rolled moss, work surface

Unroll your moss- This will be a little messy and it probably won't unroll in 1 perfect sheet but thats OK.

Begin to cover your letter with sections of moss. I used my scissors to cut off the rough size i needed. I found it easiest to run a bead of glue along the letter and then wrapped the moss around. Don't worry if you have a little over hang we'll fix that later.

If you have a bare spot just drop a bead of glue on it and dab a piece of loose moss on top, it will blend right in.

Cover the rest of your letter, you're almost done!

Flip the letter over and trim off the excess moss around the edges with scissors and glue on your ribbon.

All finished! I hung mine on the mirror in our entry. I also picked up a little box of pastel spotted eggs with ribbon loops while I was at JoAnn's. I gathered a few branches from our yard and put them in a pitchers and hung the eggs from them to make my egg tree.

here are a couple of pretty versions I've seen:

  1. Wow...what a great tutorial. You made it easy for me. Perfect place to hang it. And thank you for the idea of gathering branches for the eggs. I like the carrots, too. Were they from Joanns?

Enjoy your week. I hope you find a surprise blessing tucked in your days.

  4. I loved those moss monograms. I'm still recovering from my moss covered ball I made last year, but I may have to try one of these.

  5. I just made mine yesterday! Did you know that if you lightly mist your moss with water everyday will stay green like forever. Otherwise, you will get dry, brown patches. I just put water in a spray bottle and spray my moss topiaries and monograms, they are a gorgeous green. Wonderful tutorial. Thank you!
