master bedroom tour

Lately I've been a little obsessed with just switching some things up around the house partly due to spring and also I think because we've been here about 8 months now and I'm just starting to get a feel for how I want things to really look. I love our master bedroom because of it's views. Every window has a view of lots of trees and the creek below- it's almost like a private little tree house. When we bought the house the room was painted a moss green color that made things feel smaller than they were. I kept the paint very light- Benjamin Moore in Seed Pearl which instantly gave it an almost ethereal feel- light and very airy. That Shabby Chic bedding from our old master was a perfect fit here too and I think the only new piece of furniture is the white captains chair in the corner. By the way I tried to keep the cats out of my shots but I was the one intruding on their turf after all so I just went with it.

I de-pillowed the bed over the weekend opting for just two kings and a bolster I made from fabric found at Jo Anns. I love the sort of easy going look to it.

The vintage acrylic side table lamps were the Goodwill find of the year for me. I just added simple new shades to them. You can see why the cats love this room now, thats sweet Laya doing her morning bird watching.

The antique blue bench was a local antique shop find from a couple of years ago.

My mom gave me the rug on the wall for Christmas. The doorway leads to a private patio that overlooks the creek- I can't wait till it warms up and we can sit out there and have our morning coffee.

A tv- yep I'm a huge tv and movie lover, I'll admit it. Silk pinch pleat draperies from JC Penny.

When we were looking at the house I was horrified by the mirrors on the closets but I think it was more the previous owners with their over sized and dark wood bedroom set- it seriously felt like there was furniture everywhere because of the mirrored effect. Now I love them and they make the room feel even bigger and brighter than if they weren't there. They also give it a bit of a contemporary edge that I crave in small doses.

There is a hook in between the two closets and I like to hang my favorite "dress or top of the moment" on it. I know- maybe a little strange but stuff like that inspires me and it's just nice to look at. The old wood latter in the corner holds some of my scarves and hats.

That chandelier was there when we moved in and I've grown to really like it- it's just a touch of "grown-upness." I also like how the lines on it mimic the lines and color of my little sassy leopard stool.

Every couple of years my mom and I trade that chippy yellow antique side table back and forth. I think we've lost track as to who it actually belongs to at this point.

I hope you enjoyed the tour!

moss monogram tutorial

I've seen several of these moss monograms al la Pottery Barn out in blogland since spring has sprung and this past weekend I thought it would be fun to hop on the bandwagon. I got my rolled moss and letter "A'' from JoAnn's for around $8 with my coupon. This project was really simple, a little messy and very quick- it took me maybe 15 minutes or so from start to finish. A perfect Saturday afternoon project to add a little spring to our house.

Supplies: glue gun, scissors, ribbon, wood letter, bag of rolled moss, work surface

Unroll your moss- This will be a little messy and it probably won't unroll in 1 perfect sheet but thats OK.

Begin to cover your letter with sections of moss. I used my scissors to cut off the rough size i needed. I found it easiest to run a bead of glue along the letter and then wrapped the moss around. Don't worry if you have a little over hang we'll fix that later.

If you have a bare spot just drop a bead of glue on it and dab a piece of loose moss on top, it will blend right in.

Cover the rest of your letter, you're almost done!

Flip the letter over and trim off the excess moss around the edges with scissors and glue on your ribbon.

All finished! I hung mine on the mirror in our entry. I also picked up a little box of pastel spotted eggs with ribbon loops while I was at JoAnn's. I gathered a few branches from our yard and put them in a pitchers and hung the eggs from them to make my egg tree.

here are a couple of pretty versions I've seen:

I hope everyone has a fabulous week ahead! Be sure and check back- I'll be doing our master bedroom tour. Also don't forget you still have until Sunday night to enjoy the blog follower 10% off discount in the shop! Click Here to go straight there Be sure and and enter the code "BLOG10" at check out.

easy wall stencil

When I say this was easy that's an understatement. We have a hall wall near our stair case that needed some love and a while back I was in Hobby Lobby and ran across these stencils. They have the registration marks on the stencil so it makes lining up things so easy. Eventually when I got to the strange angles I just began to cut the stencil down to make the painting easier. The whole process went fairly quickly too- done during that lovely nap hour. I will admit I was a little unsure at first but Nick said he really liked it and had me keep going and I'm so grateful for his encouragement because I love the end result. I used paint we had on hand from another project so the whole thing only cost me the $16.99 for the stencil. I should mention that the wall I stenciled on is stucco textured and the lines aren't all perfect and crisp but I actually really like that about it, to me it helps to soften things a bit not having all of those hard edges. SO if you have a big empty wall you might consider giving this a try!

spring fresh

Bam! It's here, it almost snuck by me thats how much I've been paying attention lately. If it weren't for some random ad on the radio yesterday I wouldn't have even realized Spring was officially here. Nick and I were in the jungle aka our yard working all weekend. We took advantage of every nap the baby took and that extra DLS hour of light at the end of every day. We must have hauled away 30+ bags of leaves brush and debris from raking out our beds alone it was insane people. I'm pumped though, so ready for fresh cut grass and farmers markets.

Hope you all have a wonderful week ahead.

green and more green

Happy St. Paddy's Day! We're not Irish in this house but we look darn good in green so we're taking advantage of the color of the today. I'm still so completely obsessed with the green dress Keira Knightly wore in Atonement. Here is some green eye candy, hope your day is filled with green bagels and green beer!
