lazy weekend ahead

I read somewhere recently that a good blogger never blogs on the weekends. I'll let you in on a little secret. Sometimes I sit on my little macbook on Saturday nights so sad that there isn't much to read from the day via the blog world. I think that little rule is horse pooey.

retreat...

I just need to throw in the towel and call this day done. For some reason I thought it was a great idea to schedule two tooth fillings for 7 am this morning. I said to myself "no biggie and then it will be out of the way and I can get on with my day"- WRONG. I feel like I've been kicked by a horse in the face and all I want is to crawl into bed. See you tomorrow loves!

english country home reno

This Monday's eye candy come courtesy of Phil and Philippa Heath and their beautiful home which sits in the Derbyshire countryside in the UK. Read all about their rural renovation over at Period Living. I could do with out all the many hearts but that's just a minor quibble.

spring anthro picks

Nautical stripes, billowy whites and pretty florals. I'm so masochistic when it comes to trolling the anthro website/ and or stores. I'll take one of everything please. I don't know why I torture myself.

DIY: the book sling!

I ran across a super cute book sling tutorial from Penny Carnival earlier this week. I could hardly wait to try it out so I gathered the supplies and got to work today. It was super easy- I don't claim to be an expert on the sewing machine but I know enough to get by. I think all in all I got it done in about an hour and half if you include hanging time. I'm thrilled with the result and it looks so cute in Lucy's nursery. Total cost of the project including fabric, felt for monogram, dowel rods, and hardware was under $20. The possibilities are endless too- these could be scaled down and installed in bathrooms if floor space is an issue for magazine holders. You can find the tutorial I followed here. Be sure to check out her "Henny Penny Apron" too, I'm tempted to try that out next!

note: No, Lucy does not pass her time reading Martha Stewart Living or Coastal Living but until she knows how to pick out her own books I'll stash a little momma reading material in there too.

buy judd & leslie's house

For a meager $6,495,000 buy genius director Judd Apatow's Pacific Palisades home. Oh yeah the beautiful actress Leslie Mann lives there too. I'm particularly fond of the play room and kitchen how about you?

lasagna leftover pizza

Until Lucy is eating solid food and eating lots of it, I'm still cutting most recipes I make for Nick and I in half. Unfortunately the grocery stores don't sell the supplies like that. I made lasagna earlier this week and I had the following left over: half a tub of ricotta, half a pound of Italian sausage, a cup of mozzarella and half a jar of marinara sauce. What to do, what to do? PIZZA!

Find the pizza dough recipe here

From there divide the dough in half and freeze half for another day

Spread out the remaining dough on a non-stick pizza pan

Next brush on a liberal amount of olive oil covering the entire pizza

Spoon on leftover ricotta

Sprinkle on leftover sausage and mozzarella

Top with a dash of crushed red pepper, salt and pepper

Bake at 400 for 20-25 minutes

Heat up marinara and serve on the side for dipping.

Voila!

I spent a lot of time in the kitchen today which sent me on the hunt to pull out some pretty file photos. Bon appetite!

blooms at the table

I went all out with the tulips bulbs last fall and I'm so glad I did. God love my yard, just about everything grows great in it! I can't wait to pose little L with them next year.

We ripped out these old dwarf shrubs below Easter weekend that were half dead, leaning and crawling with spiders and old birds nests.

They were replaced with 3 pretty new forsythia bushes. Eventually they will grow in nicely and give us the same privacy we had with the old dwarf bushes but these are definitely much prettier to look at. We still need to add mulch to the front and back yard but we're waiting until the spring flowers are cut down- so much easier then!

And finally here is what my mom calls the stinky tree. While it may look pretty these blooms do not emit the most pleasant odor.

Any day now I expect the other tree in the front to bloom, it turns bright fuchsia- it's amazing all the color mother nature provides us. I love Spring! Next up: vegetable planting. I'm giving a go at new way of planting I haven't tried before and I can't wait to share it with you soon!
