phew we made it ♥

Sorry if my posts have been spotty. I'm typing with one hand and baby in the other these days. Lucy and I made it through our first week home alone while dad went back to work. We had lots of visitors who kept us company and brought yummy food and fun things for Lucy and we appreciate everyone's thoughtfulness! Boy am I stoked it's Friday though, are you reading this Nick? ♥ TGIF GANG!

Tulips are probably in my top 3 flowers. I just love to see them dramatically droop and hang over the sides of a beautiful cut glass vase or for a more casual look I like to pile them into some sort of pitcher and leave them on the kitchen counter. I smell spring.... or at least March. I'm crossing my fingers that the million some odd bulbs I planted last fall will make an appearance in the coming months.

treasure hunting results

It was a fun and successful day for Nick and I at Midland, I wish a could say the same for my Colts but we won't talk about that. It was so nice to get out of the house and spend an hour or two walking around. Every time I go there I wish I had 20 more rooms in my house to fill will the treasures I spy. In the end we came home with this great milk glass pedestal which I used to fashion my Easter table piece out of for now. (Yes, I realize Easter is a month and a half a way) Peyton thinks it's his new toy as he loves to swirl the eggs around in it. Hope you all had a great weekend and cheers to a brand new week and god willing a brand new baby too! (I'm due Thursday! )

treasure hunting

Nick and I are going to go treasure hunting here today. I've had pretty great luck there in the past. We snagged the above bench a couple of years ago for around $35. It was doubling as a coffee table for a very short period of time but we've since baby proofed our living room with the hounds tooth upholstered ottoman bench so this bench has found a sunny resting spot on the landing upstairs. I fell in love with it's dusty light grey-blue original paint. Usually when we go to Midland I'm on the hunt for something specific, not today though. Really it's more about just getting out of the house for a while before the big game tonight. I'll be sure and post tomorrow any gems I might find though. Happy Sunday everyone & GO COLTS!

Screaming my head off cheering for this guy and company:

So proud of my team, my city and my state!

GO COLTS!!!

snow white

Raise your hand if you hate buying vacuum cleaners....... I will assume a million and one hands just went up. This is quite possibly the lamest post ever but it's Friday, it's my last day of work before maternity leave and I am pretty excited about my new toy once I got over the initial sticker shock. I'm a cheap girl well I prefer conservative/ thrifty and I think that's why I really hate dropping money on things like vacuum cleaners. I was in denial that ours was shot for about a solid month till hubby finally put his foot down and stood firm we needed a new one.

The last one we bought was a Bissel, it lasted all of less than 3 years and I think it ran a pretty $200 or so at Target. It killed me to buy it, we mulled it over for a week checking consumer reports and online reviews and in the end it didn't matter anyway. This time I was ready to just go buy a cheap $50 dirt devil and call it a day. Hubby wasn't so convinced though he wanted to go a different direction.

He talked me into going to the Vacuum Cleaner store around the corner from our house last night. We had a big conversation before we left about how much money I was comfortable spending, how I'd signal him to run if I felt a panic attack setting in, and how not to look like we had a big fat targets on our foreheads to the salesman. When we walked in we were greeted by a man who turned out to be a really nice guy named Ray. Long story short I didn't have a panic attack, we spent more than I wanted but I think we got a really great machine- a Riccar, that came with a 3 year warranty including parts and labor and Ray assured me that it would reasonably last us 10 years. Ray even said we lived so close he'd make a house call if we ever had trouble. Well that's a better deal than Target or that damn Bissel could offer so we took it. I have to admit I was smitten with the fact that she looked to pretty- I had never seen a white vacuum cleaner before, I decided I would call her Snow White. So $333 later we left with Snow White and a half a dozen bags.

When we got home Nick and I had a short debate over who got to use it first. We compromised- I got to use it upstairs first and then he got to do the stairs and the first floor. It was amazing! It glided with ease and left perfect track marks all over the carpet. We were in awe. It did just as well down stairs on the tile and hardwood surfaces. Only time will tell if this is the real deal and we struck gold but we're certainly off to a great start. Now that I feel like the biggest geek on the planet for spilling all of this to you I will wish you a happy Friday!

hunkering down

4-8 inches of snow expected here in the next 24 hours or so. Yee-haw! Am I the only one that doesn't mind a good healthy dose of the white stuff? I suppose working 5 seconds from home and having a husband with a great truck doesn't hurt. Be safe everyone no matter where you're at! BTW aren't these images from Trine Horsen yummy?

master inspiration

I really want to do a mini master bedroom makeover this summer. I've been itching to paint something grey so I think it will be our room. I love the white linens on the bed and casual but pulled together feel of this room.

orchid diy

I picked up a Phalaenopsis Orchid ($12.99), a bag of moss ($3.99) and a bag of mulch ($3.99) all from Home Depot. The small pot was a Home Goods find for $3.99.

The directions said to fill the bottom of the pot with the largest chips of mulch so that's what I did.

Peyton wanted in on the action.

Next I pulled the orchid out of it's plastic container and all the mulch and dirt fell all over the counter so I stuck the orchid in the pot and filled it back in until it felt secure.

The final step was adding the moss. I decided to lightly dampen the moss in warm water as I placed it around the plant until it seemed like there was enough.

I read that this particular orchid likes indirect southern light so this was the perfect spot for it to go. (That's catnip growing in the pot on the floor if you were wondering)

Here she is up close. This should pacify me until spring.

I'm in no way an expert, this is my first ever orchid and I'm sure my potting method is cringe inducing to experts but that's why it's important to save your receipt. Home Depot guarantees their plants for a year no matter how green thumbed challenged you are. So take that Punxsutawney Phil!!!
