If you haven't seen this kitchen reno yet, you're in for an amazing and inspiring treat! I stumbled upon it at Urban Grace Interiors via My Sweet Savannah you can see the full post here. I love this reno for a couple of reasons the first one being she started with the basic builders kitchen that a lot of us have or have had. The other is because so many of the changes are so simple and easy for anyone to do! Can we just talk about how fabulous the idea to simply raise up the cabinets and add molding is?!

Happy Saturday everyone. We're enjoying the last days of summer with some sun and some sand. More adorableness to come later. Until then I wish you last second sunburns, sand between your toes and sticky ice cream hands!

Playroom before and after. The paint is up the carpet is in, the wall unit from Ikea is put together and we're ready for some serious play action.

Before: the former owners used the space as an office.

And After: eventually we will put a small television in the open space in the center. I know, I know a TV? Really? Yes really, as much as I love me some Mickey Mouse Club House I'm looking forward to the day she can spend some time in there watching it.  Meeska-Mooska-Out!

Peyton wants to to play dolls

I love the retro collection of toys Target carries.

Some more oldies but goodies

We do it all for this sweet little girl!

I love, love this splashy kitchen! I hope you're all having a fab weekend!

Thursday, August 19, 2010

Sorry I've been so scarce this week. Little L has been under the weather and all she wants is her pink blanket and her momma all cozied up on the couch. I think I've watched Toy Story at least 7 times since Tuesday- no lie. I'm thrilled the weekend is almost here so maybe I can bust out some projects finally. At least I got the kitchen primed tonight, it hid the last of the awful orange "tuscan" faux finish.

It hasn't been all bad being shacked up on the couch. Since we got cable I was able to catch up on "Tori & Dean" while Lucy slept. Those two crack me up- there I said it, I'm a fan.

Happy Friday everyone! I'm looking forward to a semi-relaxing weekend with all of the major projects done for now. Just a few rooms left to paint but I'm not really motivated for that right now, I just want to kick back and enjoy all the work thats been done so far. I can't wait to linger in bed a little while longer for the next two mornings! Hope you all have an awesome weekend!

ps- How much do you love my vintage crystal side table lamp I scored at goodwill for 2.99? BONUS: there were two available so Nick scored one for his side of the bed too!

1970's wet bar before and after

Powder room addition reveal day! You may recall a week or two ago I showed you the horrid wet bar that occupied an area of our first floor. The minute we realized the lack of bathrooms in the house I knew that wet bar's days were numbered.

Just to give you a quick background our new place is a tri-level. The first floor has the family room, sun room, playroom, laundry room, and now a half bath. The second floor hosts the main entry, kitchen, dining room and living room and the third floor is were the bedrooms are including the master with a bath and then another full hall bath. If you were in the family room and had to use the facilities you were faced with hiking up two flight of stairs which is just not practical with kids.

It was actually not as big of a project as I initially thought it might be. The plumbing for the sink was already there  from the wet bar and the crawl space was literally in the other side of one of the walls in there so plumbers were able to drop a toilet pump in there and a small hole had to be drilled into the floor to run the pipe. The whole thing took about a week from start to finish. Our wonderful contractor Stan, did an amazing job on the space and as well as seamlessly scheduling the plumbers and the tile guy.

After view from the doorway:

Stan actually moved the laundry room wall back about 10'' which allowed us to put in a standard size 6 panel door to the bathroom as opposed to the very narrow opening that was there before.

It's so nice to have the added wall space on the outside now that the opening has been drywalled in. Our carpet went in yesterday and I'm happy as clam. It's time to really get moved in now and put things up and away. We put the final coat on the playroom last night and I'm wondering if I can convince Nick to put together the IKEA Expedit this weekend. Maybe? crickets.........

New carpet today, new carpet today! I'm so stinkin' excited, I'm like 6 year old Sarah circa 1987 the night before Christmas waiting for that new cabbage patch kid excited. You'd be just as thrilled if you could see the current carpet. It's going in the family room, hall and playroom on the first floor- very kid friendly.

Speaking of kids, mine is six months old today! I can't believe it, time just shot by. She's so freakin' cute I can barely help myself sometimes. Even at 4 am when I'm trying to rock her back to sleep and she just looks up at me and laughs. So happy four months Lucy loo! Mommy loves you to pieces!!!

I picked up lunch last Friday from here. How swooney is it that it all came wrapped up like a sweet birthday present? It made me smile. Not to mention the turkey, tomato on focaccia with a fresh basil spread rocked my socks off. Are you jealous yet? =)

We've been here almost 4 weeks now and I'm ready to show you my first complete before & after!

Foyer reveal:

Before (note the lovely faux finishing and the fake foliage that looks like it's attacking the mirror)

And After

Several thick coats of Seed Pearl by Pratt & Lambert cover the walls and the trim, doors and baseboards were bathed in white to freshen the space.

A slouchy canvas sack holds the days mail.

The sail boat painting was picked up at an antique shop for $35. I painted and distressed the frame. The $7 orchid from IKEA is planted in a goodwill milk glass pedestal cup.

Someday we will rip out the dated terracotta tile but for now I'll just ignore it. Over all I'm super happy with the results! Up next I will reveal the new powder room addition just as soon as I can get some decent sunlight to shine through the windows for photographing. Happy Monday!

To the Indiana State Fair we go!

My absolute favorite photo in recent memory, Nick snapped this cow waiting outside.

I thought I 'd take a moment to share with Lucy the schedule of events.

She clearly just thought the program was lunch.

Checking out the chickens and roosters.

And my personal favorites the bunnies!

china cabinet before and after

Happy Friday y'all! My new latrine is going in as I type and I never thought I'd be so excited about a toilet! I can't quite show you the transformation yet but to hold you over here is a little project I completed recently. I picked up the china cabinet at a consignment shop for $125, a steal in my opinion. I sanded it and then..... spray painted it white. Yes I said spray paint. I'm thrilled with the way it turned out. Ignore the awful wall color it's still on the to-fix list.

OK, now back to watching Toy Story with little L.

Thursday, August 5, 2010

I have to admit I sat down and wrote the whinniest blog ever on Tuesday, lord am I glad I didn't publish that post. Things are much better now and progress has picked up quickly around here. The drywall went up and was taped and mudded this week in the powder room addition. I spent last night painting it and the tile guy will be here today. My mom wants to take the tile class at Lowes with me so we can learn to do this ourselves. I would love to redo the tile in other places in the house so that might be fun this winter.

The electrician will be here some time this morning to hook the toilet pump up and the plumber will be back tomorrow with our favorite contractor Stan to set the toilet and install the vanity/sink. I was a little bit broken hearted when they told me my pedestal sink just wasn't meant to be due to the existing plumbing but I'm sure the vanity I chose will look just as nice.

Our guys are here painting the trim and walls on the first and second floor today, and I decided on the new carpet (I think.) Still waiting on the quote but if that goes as planned it will be laid by the end of next week. Then I will breath a huge sigh of finnnnnaaaalllyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy. I can't wait to really get moved in. Did you know tomorrow is Friday? Crazy right?!
