Happy November! I can't wait to put away the Halloween and slowly sneak in Christmas. Yeah I said it. You heard me right. I'm hosting Thanksgiving for my parents this year and my goal is to have the house decorated by then. Hope you all had a fun and safe Halloween. Lucy loved her first time officially trick or treating.

On an unrelated note, how fantastically fun is this kitchen?!

She went as Marie from Aristocats.

Have a great day!

color

Chalk it up to the spring fevah but i've been craving more color in our home lately. It's a slow process for me because i don' want things to get out of hand but i've been working in subtle pops here and there.

I also finally got around to painting the upstairs hall as well as the baseboards in the living room/ dining room. Those baseboards were a breeze (they were formally stained wood now crispy white) but the dental crown molding above it is going to prove a different story.  It just needs to be done though for me to feel like it's home. I struggled with this area for a while and I finally realized the other day that's probably because the only piece of furniture in that area that we brought from the old house was the antique corner cabinet. The sectional, dining room table and chair as well as the side board were left to us from the previous owner. A bunch of people gasped when I told them my plans to paint the "beautiful" wood moldings so i put it off. It felt like we were having dinner every night in someone elses' house. Slowly but surely though it's feeling right now.

hopping in

Just hoppin' in for moment to say hi and wish everyone a beautiful Monday. I'm a little distracted at the moment with the husband out of town for the day so excuse my absence and lack of super thrilling post. But seriously how yummy is this kitchen?

the vision

Ever since we moved into our house we've talked about a kitchen remodel down the road. I've always pictured a banquet as there is no seating for a eat-in. Finally the other day I ran across a photo (I don't remember where-oops!) but it's exactly what I've been envisioning- in a someones been in my head sort of way. A remodel is still years away but it's exciting to have a tangible picture to go with the vision I've dreamed up.

the current kitchen

The "L" shaped layouts are very similar. The wall with the window on it would get bumped out to accommodate the banquet.

If you haven't seen this kitchen reno yet, you're in for an amazing and inspiring treat! I stumbled upon it at Urban Grace Interiors via My Sweet Savannah you can see the full post here. I love this reno for a couple of reasons the first one being she started with the basic builders kitchen that a lot of us have or have had. The other is because so many of the changes are so simple and easy for anyone to do! Can we just talk about how fabulous the idea to simply raise up the cabinets and add molding is?!

a look inside the kitchen

polar ice

The kitchen has great bones it just needs to be "de-chi-chi'd." Please bare in mind these photos were taken with the old owners decor up. The white cabinets are good to go, they have beautiful bubble glass (thats what is making the weird reflection in the photos) and recessed lighting inside. This is exciting but also scary to think all my dishes and junk may be visible now. We'll immediately tone done the wall color with polar ice by Benjamin Moore. We just did our current kitchen in this color it's just so fresh and clean looking. The countertop and backsplash will be addressed some day down the road until then does anyone know if it can be painted with some sort of food safe enamel or glaze?

falling back in love with my kitchen

With Halloween out of the way I realized a lot of time in the next couple of months will be spent in the kitchen. Last winter/spring I got the itch to refinish all of the cabinets, get new appliances, and install pretty new countertops. This year I want to really just relax and enjoy all the hard work we put into it and just cook and be merry!
