happy monday

Happy Monday! How was your weekend? Ours was not long enough but when are they ever? It did feel super productive at least. I finally got the inside of our entry coat closet painted and re- organized, we got our taxes done, Nick got the grass cut and I planted some more lavender, Lucy had tons of play time outside {she has developed quite a love for bubbles} and Grayson ate and slept peacefully {he is such a good baby!}. I wanted to share his announcement with you today.

Hope you have a lovely start to your week!

baby love

After we put L down for her nap yesterday Nick and I took advantage of the gorgeous weather outside and subsequent natural light that flooded our sunroom by taking Grayson's newborn pictures. He was such a fun little subject!

Have a beautiful Thursday!!!

*Note we had the heat cranked up to 85 degrees out there so no babies were cold during the making of this shoot- just sweaty parents!

Grayson Nicholas

Introducing Grayson "Gray" Nicholas, born 3.7.12. He's 7lbs of cuddly goodness! We've been home for a full day now and we're beginning to figure each other out. The very first thing Lucy did when she met him was try to put her pretend lipstick on him and when we brought him home yesterday she immediately went and retrieved her barbie play hairdryer to blow dry his hair. I have a feeling this little guy is in for it with his big sister. Good thing he seems pretty chill and laid back so far.

sew fun

I had a major urge to sew this weekend. A new Joanns location opened up nearby and I finally got to go. While I was browsing the fabric I decided on making the baby a pillow cover for his rocker and then a blanket. I'm totally obsessed with seersucker for the little man. It's just so cute and preppy.

I used my silhouette machine to cut out the template for the anchor and traced it on some scrap canvas I had. I love the blue against the grey knit throw.

And here's his blanket. It's so cozy. I will say that dot chenille is a bit challenging to sew because it has lots of stretch to it. It wanted to pucker a lot- I suggest tons of pins! The whale print is in a soft flannel.

And of course I'm learning slowly you can't make something for one child and not the other so Lucy needed one too.

I should have made her one a long time ago, she loves it.

I could sew and and sew and sew. I've enjoyed it so much lately. There are a couple of skirts and dresses I'd like to make L this spring. I'd love to take a class someday to learn more about my machine.  I swear it's one of the best gifts Nicks ever given me. Does my man know me or what?

Nursery Updates

First I'd like to thank Apartment Therapy for featuring our nursery this week here!  It was funny when I looked at it though because I had just changed it from the photos they used. I just felt like the greige walls were too serious and I wanted something a little "fresher" so we went blue. We also moved the map to behind the rocker (to keep it safer) and the bulletin board to behind the door. Lastly I decided I wasn't feeling the Ralph Lauren valance so I took it down and added a new white curtain rod. I swear I'm done thinking about it now, but I'm sooo much happier with it so it was worth the extra attention.

Hope you have a beautiful weekend!!!

puddin'

It makes my toes curl under it's so stinkin' cute to watch a little girl "cook" pudding and then sit down with a bowl still wearing her tiny apron. The apron that she got for Christmas and refuses to take off some days because she loves wearing one just like her momma so much.

Sweet girl you make my heart so full it feels like it could burst some days.

Happy Friday! Here's to a beautiful weekend full of rest and happiness!

I'll see you next week with a yummy super bowl friendly recipe and a tour of our little mister's nursery!

It's spitting glorious snow here for the first time this season. I'm sooo not being sarcastic. Let it snow baby says this Scandinavian girl. We had grand plans to go to Target tonight but quickly ditched them in favor of sweet hibernation. I worked on these burp cloths for the baby boy.

Do you know what tomorrow is? On top of it being FRIDAY it's Veteran's Day. Hug and thank one for their selfless sacrifice!!!

snails and puppy dog tails

It's a little mister for the big sister. I had the sneaking suspicion beginning the day before the big ultrasound it was a boy. I'd close my eyes and just see blue, it was strange. Up until that day I just naively assumed it was another girl because all of Lucy's cousins are girls. Needless to say the Grandpa's are flyin' high on the news of a grandson. Hope everyone's having a great week!

pink or blue?

Boy or Girl? We should have our answer tomorrow and I'm so so so excited! I have my own gut feeling but we'll just have to wait and see if I'm right.

ramblings

It's smellin' like chili up in here. God I love slow cookers. They're so magical.

We spent the weekend giving up our last spare room to make way for baby. This is a challenge for Nick and I as we've never had a house (with the exception of our first apartment) where we haven't had a spare room for overflow - a dumping ground if you will. It's good for us I guess, it's forcing me to sell off a ton of stuff on Ebay to make room. I never knew I had so many dang linens. And why is it the linen closet is always the tiniest one in the house but it's responsible for holding all of the towels, seasonal bedding for multiple bedrooms etc..? Oh to design a house, I would make sure it has a kick-ass linen closet and at least two microwaves in the kitchen.

Do you know what's coming up? September! I declare September 1st the official day to begin fall decorating. I can't wait. I've even caught myself online Christmas window shopping for Nick and Lucy. Oh Monday you were good to me- Thank You!

big news

What do I have in common with Hillary Duff, Tori Spelling, Rebecca Gayheart, Swedish Princess Victoria, Alyssa Milano, a Spice Girl, Lindsey Price, January Jones, and Keri Russell? We're are all havin' babies ya'll!

That's right we're over the moon excited to be expecting baby number 2 in early March! Nick and I can't wait to give Lucy a sibling and add to our brood. I ripped this photo out of a magazine today- love this look! So excited to have a sweet and cozy fall and winter with my bump.

good enough ♥

Hellooooooooo!!! Hope everyone enjoyed a beautiful holiday weekend. Ours got off to an unexpected rocky start but quickly recovered. I don't know what it was about the past few days but we've really started to slow down around here and just be really thankful for what's right in front of us. We didn't work on big projects or plan new ones. We just "maintained" and enjoyed the beauty that spring brought us. We played outside, hosted a little cookout for the neighbors, went swimming, took a little day trip to giant antique center and an outlet mall. It has honestly felt like a mini vacation. I think we'll be behaving like this more often. What we have is good enough- it's actually better than good it's great and I'm so thankful. I've been on this self imposed house tweaking treadmill long enough and I'm just ready to enjoy. We're looking forward to our side yard fence going in this weekend (we've been on the wait list for 6 weeks!) so we can be outside even more in the coming months.

I snapped a few photos at dusk last night of our sun room. It's so pretty that time of day. The shabby pink peonies (my absolute favorite!) were one of the many welcome surprises to pop in the yard in the past couple of weeks.

and for good measure a photo of sweet Lucy. the official Memorial Day 2011 Corn Hole Champ!

I hope you found a little slice of peace and happiness this past weekend too.
