Springy

Spring Greetings! Since I didn't have time to do a Welcome Spring post last week {or was it the week before last I've honestly lost track} I figured I'd snap a few photos yesterday of our Spring/ Easter decor around the house. Since I'm a little strapped for time again this morning I'll let the pictures do the talking...

Have a beautiful Spring day!

flower heaven

I hope everyone had a fabulous and well deserved Mothers Day! We spent time with family and also time outside working in the yard which is what I really enjoy this time of year. Nick and Lucy took me to buy some new plants and I got to plant those as well as move some hostas and ferns around that sprouted up near the creek out back.

the beautiful flowers that greeted me when I woke up Sunday morning.

peonies are my absolute favorite!

these pretty clippings came from nick's moms home. she help me cut them for my mom but they never quite made it to her house ; )

i picked out this beautiful light pink climbing rose

i wouldn't mind a bit if it took over the entire front facade of the house

i also picked out this pretty clematis

this chimney was hijacked from Nick's parents house, i can't wait to sit around it on nice nights

some of my transplants

hope you're all off to a beautiful week!

april flowers

There is no stopping the Spring flower invasion in our yard. I can't say I'm surprised there are beautiful flowers popping up everywhere I just didn't expect quite so many. This being our first Spring in this house I wasn't sure what we would see growing and it's been fun to watch. We also laid down grass seed about two weeks ago in a huge area that had just been way over-landscaped. I was a little worried because it didn't seem like the seed was taking but after a solid rain the other day it just grew and spread like wildfire and thats so exciting!

I cut a ton of flowers to shoot photos for the shop and after I was done I put a bunch in the powder room down stairs. We have to keep the door closed or one of the cats will chew on them but it's kind of nice because when you open the door to go in it's like the smell of Spring and Easter smack you right in the face in the most delightful way!

Happy Spring Thursday!

smile

Just when we thought spring was in our midst last week we got blasted over night with more snow. Snow be darned i'm choosing to smile today because i can't wait to plant my booty on the sofa with popcorn an mercilessly critique the oscars (really the arrivals) on sunday and because i know that peony season is right around the corner.

11.14.2010

can you believe I found these gorgeous hydrangeas at Costco in November?

Hope everyone is having a great weekend. I just realized it's one of the last "pre holiday" type weekends. It's just about full steam ahead mode so I'm enjoying one of my last Sundays with out any plans for a while.  We had a nice visit from my big brother and his family yesterday. They came down from Detroit and we took them here. Lucy got to meet her cousin Courtney for the first time. It was a blast!

We went to visit the new house yesterday. The owners have moved out and it was the first time seeing it empty. It was sort of strange and overwhelming all of a sudden. Of course it's a good thing, but there is just a lot that needs to be done. Some things I'd noticed before but a lot didn't become apparent until the furniture was removed. Like wow there are like 50 wires hanging out of the wall in the living that we assume are for the homes speaker system. Before we thought "Cool! We can play music throughout the house." Yesterday I looked an Nick and said "Um.... do you know how to fix that?"

It will all come together. I'm just the kind of girl who would just assume snap her fingers and sing a song and get that place put together faster than Mary Poppins' can say supercalifragilisticexpialidocious but all in time. What was I saying the other day about taking my time?

Yesterday the slipcovers I ordered came and I absolutely love them! I can wait to share some new shots with you! But until then I leave you with one last shot of the old house. I'll always remember the way my first Mothers Day peonies filled the corner of the dining room so beautifully.

blooms at the table

I went all out with the tulips bulbs last fall and I'm so glad I did. God love my yard, just about everything grows great in it! I can't wait to pose little L with them next year.

We ripped out these old dwarf shrubs below Easter weekend that were half dead, leaning and crawling with spiders and old birds nests.

They were replaced with 3 pretty new forsythia bushes. Eventually they will grow in nicely and give us the same privacy we had with the old dwarf bushes but these are definitely much prettier to look at. We still need to add mulch to the front and back yard but we're waiting until the spring flowers are cut down- so much easier then!

And finally here is what my mom calls the stinky tree. While it may look pretty these blooms do not emit the most pleasant odor.

Any day now I expect the other tree in the front to bloom, it turns bright fuchsia- it's amazing all the color mother nature provides us. I love Spring! Next up: vegetable planting. I'm giving a go at new way of planting I haven't tried before and I can't wait to share it with you soon!

Tulips are probably in my top 3 flowers. I just love to see them dramatically droop and hang over the sides of a beautiful cut glass vase or for a more casual look I like to pile them into some sort of pitcher and leave them on the kitchen counter. I smell spring.... or at least March. I'm crossing my fingers that the million some odd bulbs I planted last fall will make an appearance in the coming months.

Martha, oh Martha

There is something way under-rated about receiving beautiful flowers wrapped in paper don't you think? If you want the specifics on this click here. Compliments of the one and only Ms. Martha Stewart.
